Review: As A Conceit – Ebb\Flow (Italy, 2014)

As A Conceit is a 5-piece metalcore project from Venice, Italy, founded in 2012.
Ebb\Flow is their debut EP, released in 2014 after two singles.
Although short, it is a solid work. The riffing reminds me of latter Architects and it is definitely heavy, even if at times too much breakdown-oriented in my opinion, and is accompanied by some catchy choruses and singalong moments. Vocals are powerful and the lyrics are too, while the drums provide a good rhythm section with sufficient dynamics to open up the sound a little bit.
The standout track is to me the opener Rainbringer, in which I found both the best riffs and lyrics on the EP.
I appreciated the work, even though I would have enjoyed some more variety and I think the guys still have to find their own voice.
As Integrity is saying “we’re not giving up yet, please take it in consideration” I definitely say myself: don’t give up guys, you have potential!

I am indeed a failed guitarist, drummer and so much more! Er, I’d better write about music I like for the time being. Although my musical past has been firmly rooted in rock, punk and metal, I appreciate any kind of music as long as I find it artistically interesting. I have a split personality by which part of me likes anything musically forward-thinking, inventive or just of general “good taste”, and part of me likes being blasted by all-out intensity and dissonance.
